Originally known as Prospect Hill, then Arsenal Hill in honor of its munitions storage facility which later exploded, Capitol Hill lies 300 feet above the valley floor. The State Capitol Building was constructed in 1914 at a cost of $2,740,000 and was designed by Salt Lake architect Richard K. A. Kletting.
