Often referred to as the gateway to Salt Lake City, Eagle Gate was originally built in 1859. It marked the entrance to City Creek Canyon Road. At one time, the wall of the gate stood eight feet tall and surrounded the entire fifty acres of Brigham Young’s estate, reducing the number of Indian attacks.
