Originally built in 1899 on Ninth South and State Street, the Salt Palace was covered in rock salt and illuminated with hundreds of lights at night. It stood for only eleven years before it burned to the ground in 1910. In 1969, a new Salt Palace was built on West Temple and 100 South. Now a convention center, it was home to the Utah Jazz through 1990.
